Mrs. Courtney McGahey

Mrs. McGahey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Consumer Sciences (http://www.csm.ches.ua.edu/), in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama.

Her focus is in Consumer Affairs.  The students with this major have many opportunities after graduation.
Most states have their own consumer affairs department, this is a major draw for consumer affairs graduates, working for the government.  These departments handle consumer complaints, product recalls, licensing and other consumer issues. They alert the public to important consumer news. Many consumer affairs graduates go on to work in public affairs. They use their knowledge of consumer interests to create compelling advertising campaigns or to promote their organization's interests to the public. Consumer affairs majors can work for nonprofits and other organizations as advocates for consumers. They lobby Congress for the passage of consumer-oriented laws. They also analyze consumer trends and help nonprofits educate the public about important consumer issues. A degree in Consumer Affairs is broad enough, the graduate can pursue many different avenues.
